Safe Handling Procedures

• Officers on the perimeter should be aware
that impact munitions are being employed

and may be utilized - the deployment may
be planned or unplanned.

• Communicating may prevent confusing the
report of SIMs with that of a firearm.

• A quick effective code, such as “IMPACT”
to alert fellow officers to the impending use

of impact munitions is advisable.

• A weapon loaded with SIM deserves the

same respect as a loaded firearm and
officers should keep their trigger finger
outside of the trigger guard until they are

ready to fire.
